Somatic Therapy
In addition to traditional Mental Health Counseling, I offer private Somatic Therapy sessions that incorporate Tai Chi & Qigong practices. In Somatic Therapy, the body is the starting point for alleviating discomfort and initiating healing. Trauma is often stored in the body, not just in the mind, and by practicing slow, intentional movements in a rhythmic sequence with mindful breathing, the body can begin to process, move through, and release blocked energy and traumatic memories. Practices such as Tai Chi & Qigong
help promote a sense of calm and peace within the nervous system, allowing it to heal and be nourished.

Somatic therapy may potentially help alleviate symptoms associated with the following:
-
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
-
Grief
-
Depression
-
Anxiety
-
Trust and Intimacy Issues
-
Self-Esteem and Low Self-Worth

Moving our bodies with intention is one of the most powerful methods of restoring
and strengthening our own vital energy.
About Sun Style Tai Chi & Qigong
Sun Style is a gentle form of Tai Chi known for its smooth, flowing movements and upright stance. The practice has health benefits that support the mind, body, and spirit. Sun Style moves at a slow pace, making it great for people of all ages and physical conditions. Founded in principles of Chinese energy healing, Sun Style is an internal practice as much as it is an external practice and can become meditative over time. Along with learning the physical sequence of movements you’ll also have the opportunity to fine tune and strengthen your focus, balance, breath, and posture.

Qigong translates to "energy work". With "Qi" being life force energy and "gong" meaning to work. When used as a practice to promote health benefits, tai chi is considered a form of Qigong. Qigong is a practice that can be used to clear and optimize energy, as well as support the internal organs. Some movements in Qigong are dance-like in their nature and are designed to help connect you with elements of nature.
